The Canon PowerShot SX30 IS is equipped with a 35x Optical Zoom lens with a focal length of 4.3-150.5mm (35mm equivalent: 24-840mm) that allows you to shoot any scene from wide-angle to telephoto. The camera uses a VCM (Voice Coil Motor) for high-speed, quiet, energy-efficient lens movement with precise control. Focal length is conveniently indicated on the lens barrel.

The lens is optimized to fully exploit its zoom length and wide shooting angle in concert with the camera’s high 14.1 Megapixel resolution. UD glass effectively suppresses chromatic aberration, while enhanced negative refractive power ensures that distortion at the wide-angle is also corrected. Further aberration is controlled with the inclusion of a double-sided aspherical glass-molded lens and ultra-high refraction index lens.

The SX30 IS is equipped with Canon’s acclaimed Optical Image Stabilizer Technology that automatically detects and corrects camera shake–one of the leading causes of fuzzy or blurred shots. I needed a new camera and did quite a bit of research to find out what is new in the camera world. It was a little challenging. But this Canon model kept coming up and the more I looked into it, the more I liked what I saw. When I actually got the camera in my hands, I was very pleased with the number of features it has and the quality of the pictures. I am not a big camera buff but I do like quality. This camera gives you just enough manual adjustment to make it fun and enough point and shoot simplicity to make it easy to operate. Some of the features are so fun to use because they are unusual (I haven’t had a new camera for about 6 years). I really love this camera. Hope you do too.
The 35x zoom is also a really great feature. I had read other reviews before I purchased this camera. I found that more professional photographers were not pleased with the speed of certain functions on the camera. For the rest of us, who cares—this camera is fun. Go for it. ps. don’t forget to buy a memory chip (the camera doesn’t have memory) and an extra battery is not a bad idea either. I found a good one on amazon.

What else do u need? 35x Optical Zoom with full manual controls, Aperture Priority and Shutter priority and what not… This camera can perform even better than many of the known DSLRs if a person knows proper photography… A really good investment…
The VDO capabilities might not be that good… but the rest of the features and quality super-cedes that… A must buy for people looking to shoot professional photographs without investing in an SLR..
